1. Tell us what your blog is about and what inspired you to start blogging?

My blog is about fashion, beauty, knitting, and really anything that makes me smile!  I started it in the summer of 2010 when I doing an internship abroad in Spain and I thought it would be a fun way to chronicle my adventures.  That was also around the time that I first discovered the world of fashion blogging.  I was really inspired by seeing real girls wearing clothes I could really get myself, so I hoped I could also inspire someone else in that way 🙂

2. How do you choose what you blog about?

Oh gosh, it really varies from week to week!  I keep meaning to have an editorial calendar where I plan everything out in advance, but that doesn’t always happen 😉 My outfit posts are not as frequent as they used to be, because I no longer have a good indoor space where I can take them if I don’t have my photographer friend to help me, but I try to get up 2-4 outfit posts a month.  I’ve transitioned into more of a lifestyle blog since I started, so that means I’ll also share things around my home, meet-ups with other bloggers and friends, events I’ve attended recently, and more!  Then since I’m a nail polish addict, I like to share my weekly manicures and since I’m also an avid knitter, I also share personal projects I’m working on or things I sell in my Etsy shop.  So as you can see, I’ll blog about anything and everything that’s related to my life!

3. Your blog has a lot of NOTD’s – what is your current favourite nail polish?

Eesh, that’s a tough one!  Well, right now I’m really loving bright/bold colors that really stand out, so I would have to say that I love Zoya Creamy.

4. I love how you started up correspondence club – what made you come up with it and how has it grown?

Well, a few months ago, for some reason I started thinking about this pen pal I used to have and wondering about how she was doing.  Then I thought about how fun it would be to connect with bloggers around the world in another way, through the art of letter-writing!  Also, I love stationery and sending/receiving mail so any excuse to do more of that seemed like a good idea to me!  I was really nervous about posing the idea on my blog because it wouldn’t really work if no else wanted to participate.  Luckily, several people signed up for the Correspondence Club that first month, and we’ve been growing a little bit in the following months. We’re now at 13 members and I would love for us to just keep growing and growing! 🙂

5. Makeup, shoes, nail polish or bags?

Nail polish! Shoes would be my second choice, but I think I show a lot of expression in the way my nails are painted 🙂

6. I have to throw in a random question – what is the scariest thing you have done?

Hmmm, the scariest thing for me to date was being a senior in college and having no idea what I was going to do after I graduated! The whole job-hunting process was really long and tough, but I was so lucky that I got offered a job the Friday before I graduated (I know, seriously cutting it close!).  The second scariest/toughest thing was apartment-hunting in New York City.  I’m not sure I’ve fully recovered from the stress and I’m so not looking forward to the next time I have to do it!

7. What’s your favourite destination to visit?

Hands-down it would have to be Spain!  I’ve been twice- the first time I went with my best friend and we spent a month studying n Madrid and then about a month visiting her family in a different part of Spain.  My best friend’s family was so warm and welcoming and really made me feel at home in a strange country.  I then went again the following summer to work an internship and it was just as amazing being there again.  I love the language, the food, the people and the different feelings of each of the cities in Spain I’ve been to.  I could seriously go on and on about how much I love Spain- I’m dying to go back!

8. What is on your latest wish/lust list?

Fashion-wise, I’m so ready to pick up some new pieces for spring!  I would love to add some colored denim, more florals, mint colored clothes, floral denim, and bright/fun shoes to my closet!  Also on my wish list is a new computer and/or an iPad- I’m so ready for an upgrade!

9. What advice do you give new bloggers who are starting out their own blogs?

My advice to new bloggers would be to remember that it’s your blog.  It’s so easy to get caught up in what other people are doing or to blog about something in particular because it’s popular and that’s what everyone else is doing, but if it’s not you, then there’s really no point.  Your unique perspective and your unique voice is what will separate you from other bloggers, so you should focus on cultivating that.  My other piece of advice is to connect with other bloggers in real life.  Not only is a ton of fun to meet up with other bloggers, but it’s a great way to make new connections and get advice from other bloggers who’ll know what you’re talking about when you say “OOTD!” 🙂

10. Lastly, tell us something about yourself that most people wouldn’t know?

Something that most people wouldn’t know is that I’m the pickiest eater!  My friends make fun of me about this all the time and claim that I only have one food group- white foods (such as bread, rice, pasta, etc…)!  There are a lot of foods that I don’t like, but the ones I do like I could eat for days and days! 😀

Thanks Nnenna for letting me interview you 🙂 For those who haven’t checked her out. Go and join up the correspondence club 🙂

Interview – Lisa from Respect the shoes

Hi All,

Time for another interview.  Today we have Lisa from Respect the shoes.  She posts frequent OOTDs and always seems to wear something different and have an interesting story to add to each blog entry 🙂 Check her out when you have a chance!

Now onto the questions:

IMG_2910

1. Tell us what your blog is about and what inspired you to start blogging?
I think the simplest way to describe my blog is that it’s about me trying to find my own style, and that was fully my intent when I started my blog. I had been reading style blogs for a few months before deciding to delve in because it seemed like fun and everyone was really sociable and happy to just talk “fashion.”
Plus style bloggers are a lot more realistic inspirations than magazines and they challenged me to go outside my comfort zone and try things I normally would not have – skirts, colors, patterns, belts, heels. These are all items I fully embrace now in my daily wardrobe and I would not have if it were not for blogging.

2. How do you choose what you blog about?
I’ve always liked fashion and doing a daily outfit blog seemed like a great opp for me to catalog my style and challenge myself to dress better. At the time I was working from home and honestly it was difficult to get motivated to even get out of my jammies on some days.

IMG_2788

3. Your blog consists of a lot of OOTDS. What is your favourite?
Oh gosh, I have no idea. A lot of times outfits that I absolutely adore are the same ones that readers are “meh” about and the ones I don’t really like are the ones that people go crazy over, so go figure.

4. Who do people say you look like?
I honestly don’t think I look like anyone, though as I am getting older, I am starting to see resemblances to my mom or dad – depending on the day, I guess. I do get called “Lucy” and “Linda” a lot, I have no idea why!

IMG_2490

5. Makeup, shoes, nail polish or bags?
Definitely shoes. I’ve always adored shoes even way “back in the day” during high school and college when all I could really afford were Payless-type brands.
However, recently I’ve been giving bags another look since it’s a piece that seems to be able to instantly elevate a look. You could go out on the town in a tee and baggy jeans with flip flops, but if you’re carrying a cool purse, it makes everything work.

6. I have to throw in a random question – what is the scariest thing you have done?
I’m a big chicken at heart so loads of things scare me. Big thing – moving across the country right after college with no friends or job prospects. Small thing – going white water rafting, especially because I can’t swim worth a darn!

IMG_2566

7. What’s your favourite destination to visit?
I only got to go once but am dying for an excuse to return – Hong Kong. It’s so full of action that you’re stimulated by everything. And it’s a city where you can spend big bucks or just a few dollars and still have the time of your life. I got to go with the BF and we both had the time of our lives.

8. What is on your latest wish/lust list?
No specific items, per se, but I want to get some great easy spring/summer dresses that I can just slip on and look put-together without having to think about it. Hoping they will replace me automatically reaching for shorts and a tee on those hot summer days. Also, a great medium size structured purse – I really only have big ole totes or itty bitty cross-bodies. And always, always keeping my eye out for the “next great shoe.”

IMG_2321

9. What advice do you give new bloggers who are starting out their own blogs?
I’d say the most important thing is to be yourself. Find your voice, blog about what you want, when you want to. Like-minded people will find you. This is all supposed to be fun, not a job or a contest.

IMG_2282

10. Lastly, tell us something about yourself that most people wouldn’t know
It’s funny – I think I share so much about my own quirks that it takes me a while to figure what this blog community doesn’t know about me. I don’t know about any one item of significance per se, but here are a bunch of little (completely random) things that I don’t think most readers know about me:
• 5 tequila shots is my limit
• Predator and Quiz Show are tied as my all-time favorite movie
• Through high school (and even now though it is probably too late), I wanted to be a military pilot – specifically a naval aviator. Can you imagine going from 0 – 200mph in less than 300ft on a cat launch?!
• I know all the words to “Ode to Joy” in German. I have no idea what they mean though.

IMG_1936

Love the random trivia – Ode to Joy in German ! Impressive 🙂 Lisa is so lovely and I love her answers 🙂 Check out her blog.

Let me know if you have other people in mind you want me to interview 😉

Interview – Bessie from Braveorunway

Hi all,

Time for another interview. Please welcome Bessie from Braveorunway. She has so many different outfits and I agree that she blogs about fashion for everyday women. Onto the questions:
1. Tell us what your blog is about, when you started and what inspired you to start blogging?

My blog is about fashion for the everyday woman! We talk about current trends, how to maximize pieces in our closets, how we feel about certain pieces and colours, and anything that relates to style. After receiving extensive encouragement from my friends to do something with my love for fashion, I started Bravoe Runway.
2. How do you choose what you blog about?

I like to blog about different aspects of fashion. I think of topics that my readers have been wondering about but haven’t been sure how to wear a particular item or how to style it? The goal of each blog post is to get my readers to think about something fashion related and chat about it in the comments! And…they LOVE to weigh in on their thoughts.

3. What blog/blogs inspire you?
glamourai_NYFWInstagrams
The Glamourai! She has been blogging for several years and continues to succeed in what she does. I’m always amazed by her style, her writing, and also her design background. Not only can she design clothes but she also understands interior design.

4. What is your favourite piece of clothing?
Presenting….My Favorite Dress!
My favorite piece of clothing in my closet is a silver Paillettes cocktail dress by Marc Bouwer. Even though I’ve had this dress for 4 years, every time I put it on, it feels like the first time I’m wearing it.

5. If you had to choose one which one would you choose – Makeup, shoes, nail polish or bags?

Handbags! A great handbag can elevate the status of any outfit.
6. I have to throw in a random question – what is the scariest thing you have done?

The scariest thing I’ve ever done was hmmm…..para-sailing in the Caribbean.

7. What’s your favourite destination to visit?

My favorite destination to visit within the US is Las Vegas. There’s so much to do, see, eat, shop, and enjoy in that city!

8. What is on your latest wish/lust list?
phillip lim 31-31 phillip lim 31 hour bag
The latest item on my wish list is the Phillip Lim 31 Hour bag in a natural tan colour.

9. What advice do you give new bloggers who are starting out their own blogs?

When you first start blogging, concentrate on your content because content is king. The better your posts and photos, the more people you will have that will want to follow your blog, and companies will want to sponsor you.

10. Lastly, tell us something about yourself that most people wouldn’t know?

I have a slight case of OCD when it comes to caring and preserving my items. All of my shoes are stored in their original boxes and my handbags are all stuffed with tissue and kept in their sleeper bags when not in use.

Thanks so much Bessie for letting me interview you. Whoa para

Interview – Megan from Feathersfreckles

Hi all,

Time for another interview and we have here today Megan from Feathersfreckles. I love this girl’s style and the ability to thrift some wonderful pieces for everyday wear. So onto the questions:

1. Tell us what your blog is about, when you started and what inspired you to start blogging?
My blog was born in July and is all about finding my style. I was inspired by other fashion bloggers, and since I work from home I needed some motivation to get out my pajamas every day.
2. How do you choose what you blog about?
I post an outfit and then rant about whatever’s on my mind that day. I like to talk about my experiences thrifting or taking photos of myself; telling stories that give my readers a chance to get to know me more personally.
3. What blog/blogs inspire you?
I gravitate towards blogs whose fashion is attainable and relatable, from girls who don’t take themselves too seriously.
4. What is your favourite piece of clothing?
My thrifted pink skirt.
(But really my sweats and fuzzy socks).
5. If you had to choose one which one would you choose – Makeup, shoes, nail polish or bags?
Bags – and then I’d put all the other stuff inside 🙂
6. I have to throw in a random question – what is the scariest thing you have done?
Moved with my fiance across the country from California to Florida (knowing nobody), packing only what fit in our car.
7. What’s your favourite destination to visit?
Germany, because that’s where my sister and her family are. Not to mention they put Nutella on everything there.
8. What is on your latest wish/lust list?

This is always on my wish list.
9. What advice do you give new bloggers who are starting out their own blogs?
Blog because you enjoy it. It’s your own little piece of the web so have fun with it!
IMG_4952
10. Lastly, tell us something about yourself that most people wouldn’t know?
I think most of my readers don’t know that I’m a vegetarian… I’ve been one for about 7 years.
Haha this girl is so funny – her wish list especially!  Check out her blog if you haven’t already!
If you have any other suggestions for blog features/interviews. Let me know 🙂

Interview – Nelah from 52newdays

Hi all,

Time for another interview and today we have Nelah from 52newdays sharing with us. The first time I stumbled across Nelah’s blog was a while ago and I love how she is so honest with her posts and she shares many beautiful photos and posts that interest her and not necessarily anybody else and for that I admire her. So check her out if you already haven’t.

So onto the questions:

1. Tell us what your blog is about, when you started and what inspired you to start blogging?

Hi my (pseudo) name is Nelah and I blog/share/vent over at 52newdays way over there in a small corner of blogpshere. Big thanks to Katherine giving me an opportunity to share bits and pieces of me on her lovely blog.

I have to give a full credit to “motherhood” because it was an initial reason for me to start blogging. After having my baby girl in 2009, my world was turned upside down and I felt like I needed some sort of outlet to spend my energy/creativity/passion on while doing my motherly duties and juggling in my full time job. Being a mom isthe most wonderful thing but many new moms find herself in a situation where she can’t find the right balance between motherhood, work, marriage and “me” time. Mothers are amazing creatures. They work hard around the clock – no sick day – no vacation. They devote all their love, time and energy to their family. However, they have trouble making time for themselves and that was the part I struggled with throughout my journey. I started blogging in June 2010 when my little girl was about 17 months old. I was glad I did because it significantly…can I say…”improved my quality of life and mental health”..haha. I guess I can say that my blog is a lifestyle blog, a bit of everything. My main focus is to talk about things I love and connect with likeminded individuals who want to connect with me.

2. How do you choose what you blog about?

I choose topics which I feel “comfortable” talking about to blog. I am not considered myself as an expert in any particular topic but if I have experiences in certain areas and if I feel that it can offer any value to others, then it is worth sharing. Many times my posts offer no value at all but it satisfies my personal needs. While it is also important to think about your readers, I do not blog to please anyone or try to attract certain group of readers. It takes trial and error to experiment with blogging but at the end of the day, I want to say things that I believe in / am happy to share and reflect “me”.

3. You have your own etsy items – what is your favourite piece that you are selling?

My favorite piece from my Etsy shop must be the “Dare to be Bold” necklace which was the first piece I sold. That piece held a special meaning.

{Say that you love me necklace}

4. What is your favourite piece of clothing?

Pants are my most favorite pieces of clothing in my tiny closet. I wear pants 98% of the time so that says something, right?

5. If you had to choose one which one would you choose – Makeup, shoes, nail polish or bags?

Bags, bags and more bags!

6. I have to throw in a random question – what is the scariest thing you have done?

That would be giving birth to my daughter without any medication. I had ALWAYS had this fear about giving birth, crazy but true. I remember watching a video that showed woman giving birth and that really, really, really haunted me for years. However when the time came, mother nature knew just what to do and I overcame my fear.

7. What’s your favourite destination to visit?

I always love visiting my family in Bangkok. All my family members live there so that is by far my favorite place on earth. One day though, I would like to expand my horizon and visit countries in Europe, Australia and Japan

8. What is on your latest wish/lust list?

My latest wish/lust list is fairly short these days and they are not something I feel like I am dying to get them right now. I guess it is a good thing, my bank account is doing a happy dance. At some point in time, I would like to have a Celine Luggage Tote / a Miss Dior Bag/ more Hermes scarves and invest in some Cartier or Bvlgari jewelry but they are not my priority at the moment. Ever since New Year, my focus has shifted and I have begun to appreciate an idea of minimalism particularly on material goods. I focus on what I truly like and its practicality rather than going out and buy everything in sight. I am more interested in gaining travel experience, maintaining personal finance and improving our home.

9. What advice do you give new bloggers who are starting out their own blogs?

You know I can write a thesis on this. It does take some experimentation to find “the happy medium in blogging” but there is no complicated science. The most important thing is to “be yourself” and stay true to your initial goal. We all blog for many reasons – be it just for fun, to partner with businesses, to promote your business, to have your own look book, to connect with family, to share your journey/struggles/problems or etc. We all agree that at some point most of us get carried away with trying to gain followers, drive more traffic and maintain stats. I can tell you from my experience that those things can eventually ruin the “fun”. I had been there, I had done that and I almost stopped blogging. Step back and take a break when you need to. Think about what brought you into blogging and the fun you had. If blogging is really your passion, get back to it and start fresh. Blog about what you are comfortable with..share your true passion / belief..reflect your inner soul and be yourself. You want people to get to know and like you the way you are. You will be amazed at how many friends you can meet via blogging. Blogsphere is an amazing supporting community if you get into the one that suits you.

10. Lastly, tell us something about yourself that most people wouldn’t know?

I am rather a quiet person in real life, definitely not a chatter box. That is quite contradicting to the person I am on the blog because I have so much to share and talk about there. I am an introvert so I communicate my thoughts and inner soul better in writing. I can also read people and that helps me avoid “friendship goes wrong” situations many times in life. I can say that the friends I have now are the friends for life, I don’t have that many but quality is the key. I hate drama / cat fight/ gossip / fakers and craps like that in general so I stay away or keep a good distance from people who tend to have that personality traits. I believe in surrounding yourself with positive things, it makes a difference in your life.

Thanks so much Nelah for taking the time to answer these questions. Looking forward to seeing what you post in the future 🙂

Any other suggestions for future interviews – please leave me comments or email me 🙂

Interview – Frills and thrills

Hi all,

This is a requested interview from one of my readers.  So please welcome Sam from Frills and Thrills.

1. Tell us what your blog is about and what inspired you to start blogging?

I studied Journalism & Fashion Marketing, with an aim to work in the magazine industry, however there aren’t many career opportunities for that here in South Africa. So instead of waiting around, I decided to be pro-active and start a fashion blog. Frills and Thrills is my personal version of an online style magazine.

2. How do you choose what you blog about?

I try to include every facet of fashion, including runway looks, celebrity style, red carpet events, trends, brand features and little bits of inspiration.

3. Your blog has a lot of fashion trends How do you find out about these trends?

I read a lot of magazines, in print and online. Also, FTV is the place to view style in motion. I’ve noticed that seeing a picture of a designer gown doesn’t have the same effect as watching it sashay down the runway.

4. Who is your favourite fashion celebrity?

Gosh, there are many stylish celebrities that I admire, it would be hard to pick just one! So I’m going to cheat on this question 😉 I’d say Alexa Chung for her unconventional approach towards fashion, I love how she defies by not wearing heels all of the time. I appreciate the bohemian glamour of Florence Welch, Jessica Alba’s savvy street style, Fan Bing Bing for doing couture gowns great justice and Mia Wasikowska for always choosing simple and elegant red carpet looks. And not to forget, Blake Lively off-screen, and Leighton Meester on-screen (as Blair Waldorf).

5. Makeup, shoes, nail polish or bags?

My favourite brand of makeup is MAC for making skin look perfectly polished. I love the benefit range of cosmetics for their quaint packaging and whimsicality.
I would love to own a pair of Charlotte Olympia pumps, but I’m secretly a flats type-of-girl. I think Mulberry bags are a timeless classics and I like Coach bags for their versatility. On my bag wish list right now is a Proenza Schouler PS1 satchel, any colour will do!

6. I have to throw in a random question – what is the scariest thing you have done?
I’m not the adventurous type, so the scariest thing I’ve done is ride Splash Mountain in Disneyland when I was younger. I didn’t know how scared I was of heights until I shrieked my way all 52 feet down.

7. What’s your favourite destination to visit?

I love Beirut, I think it’s my favourite city for the moment. I’d like return there someday.
The Far East has a great vibe, I could revisit Malaysia & Thailand over and over again and not tire of it.

8. What is on your latest wish/lust list?

(Besides for the above-mentioned Charlotte Olympia Pumps and Proenza Schouler bag),
Anything from Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, a Burberry Prorsum trench coat, a pleated black silk & lace Nina Ricci dress, a structured Alexander McQueen jacket and a fedora by Eugenia Kim. I agree that this is an impossibly far-fetched and unrealistic list 😉

9. What advice do you give new bloggers who are starting out their own blogs?

Blog on what you’re passionate about, regardless of what anyone says. Even if it does not conform to popular themes and topics. Doing this ensures that you will always be inspired to post something new, with an individualistic point of view. Try not to set limits for yourself. A blog is your personal space to write freely about anything you’d like, and share your thoughts and creativity with the rest of the world.

10. Lastly, tell us something about yourself that most people wouldn’t know?

Most may wonder why I don’t do any personal outfit posts on my blog, the truth is I am terribly camera shy and don’t like posing for photographs. Every time I see someone with a camera, I’m most likely to run & hide!

Special Thanks to Katherine for asking me to do this interview. It was lots of fun!

Thanks Sam for all your answers! I loved your latest lust haves and wish lists and those bags are so lovely! This girl seriously knows her fashion so check her out 🙂

Please let me know if you would like to be interviewed or would like someone to be interviewed!

Interview – Carrie from Petal by Petal

Hi All,

It’s time for another interview! Today I have Carrie from Petal by Petal 🙂 I think I found her blog roughly around the time when I first started blogging. I liked how she was on the search for her own personal style and she likes to add random bits and pieces on her blog 🙂 So here we go :

1. Tell us what your blog is about and what inspired you to start blogging?

I initially started my blog to help me document my search for personal style. However, I also post about anything I’m interested in, from seasonal obsessions (gingerbread houses!) to personal goals. Reading other style blogs inspired me to start my own.

2. How do you choose what you blog about?

I blog about what interests me, and hope others will find it interesting, too. 😉

3. I like your Try-it-out Tuesday pieces – what is your favourite one so far?
I think my favorite so far is the one featuring my Forever 21 striped skirt. It’s a great addition to my closet, and it was something new for me to pair it with tights. Also, I wanted this skirt for months before purchasing it, so it’s exciting to actually own it. 🙂

4. What is your favourite piece of jewellery?
Hmmm, tough question … I try to love all of my jewelry equally! 🙂 I have some pieces that are favorites because they are gifts, and I am reminded of the gift-giver when I wear them. But I suppose I should mention my pearl-and-chain necklace because it’s what I reach for when I want to dress up an outfit.

5. Makeup, shoes, nail polish or bags?
I’ll have to say shoes … although they rarely show up on my blog, haha. 🙂

 6. I have to throw in a random question – what is the scariest thing you have done?
Scariest thing I’ve done is move to California after graduating from college. It was a big move and adjustment but also a wonderful growing experience.

 7. What’s your favourite destination to visit?
Seattle is a favorite! But also India for the awesome jewelry and wonderful food.
 8. What is on your latest wish/lust list?
Some of the basics – I’m on the hunt for a little black dress, a great-fitting blazer, and an excellent pair of jeans. Oh, and more fun jewelry, of course.
 9. What advice do you give new bloggers who are starting out their own blogs?
Be yourself! My latest post stars a plush reindeer. Cool? No. Me? Yes. 😀

 10. Lastly, tell us something about yourself that most people wouldn’t know?
I have been studying the Japanese martial art of aikido for a while and earned my black belt in 2008. I will be testing for the next rank in February, which is both exciting and terrifying.

Thanks so much Carrie for letting me interview you 🙂 It has been fun 🙂 Check out her blog 🙂

For any suggestions on who I should interview next please let me know or if you would like to be featured let me know 🙂
